Trauma is a common theme for my characters' histories, but nothing here goes into trigger-level details.
Aerick Fallaner
Aerick has a history of severe sexual trauma, and carries distrust like a weapon. He is incredibly wealthy, the controlling shareholder of his late abusive adoptive father's biomedical company, Fallanercorp. Ridiculously overeducated no matter what age he's played at, Aerick keeps the world at the other end of a ten-foot-pole from himself, and is not afraid to use it to knock away anyone who wishes to get close.
Older versions of Aerick are reclusive and formal. Younger versions lash out and try to scare people away. He is given to running from things that challenge his conviction that alone is always better, but if he runs from someone, it means he's afraid they can get past his icy masks. The mask is the only way forward. The mask is the only way to face the world. The mask is all that holds him back, and all he has to keep going forward.
Aiden Seraph
Aiden is the sole survivor of a devastating attack on his family from when he was fourteen. As a result, some versions of Aiden are prone to seizures of various natures. He spent his teenaged years quite literally being put back together, and came out of recovery swinging.
He is, quite literally, a fighter; he trained all through childhood to fight, and studied tactics of all scales from the time he could read. What kind of fighter he is and what his specialties are tend to be fluid depending on the situation, but in all versions, Aiden does not flinch from killing if it will keep alive the people he has chosen as valuable to him-- or if it will get him closer to the end of the mission. Human life is what is made out of it, and Aiden will make everything he possibly can out of his second chance.
Sachael "Hael" Urmen
Hael is a Roma with a very special gift; he can tell when people are lying to him. Whether it's overtly supernatural, or simply a knack of being able to read and understand micro-expressions, he always knows.
He's second-youngest in a family of seven children; he has traveled the world, worked since he was a child, and learned that love is not possession, no matter how beautiful it is. Honest and open, and often accompanied by a large, long-furred cat named Bones, Hael has a crescent-moon smile that is never forced. Sometimes illiterate or math-illiterate, versions of Hael can speak between seven and twenty languages, in whole or in part, and he can be found anywhere.
Judas
Judas is a were-margay, a small, largely nocturnal, wild cat from South and Central Americas that have the unique ability to descend a tree forward.
Forcefully infected at the command of the head of a drug cartel when he was barely seven years old, Judas lived largely as a wild creature in a large enclosure with the were-margay who infected him, it took a military seizure of the compound to set twenty-year-old Judas free. Years later, he still struggles to adjust to being a human while being a cat as well, and tends to eschew humans for other shifters. Fiercely possessive and considered an alpha cat despite his diminutive size, Judas is easy to get into bed, but hard to get rid of once he's decided you're his.
Joshua Kaine
Infected as a wolf when he was only eleven, Josh learned how to control himself alone in a small town in rural western North Carolina. One of dozens of illegitimate children of a biker, Josh inherited his uncle's fortune-- all of it, with no notations for his half-brothers or sisters at all.
Sometimes Josh is still a lone wolf lost in the backwoods, awkward and apart from his community for the money he barely acknowledges, and sometimes he is the powerful alpha of a huge pack in Las Vegas. Laid-back and possessed of a singular allure trademark to all Kaines, Josh lacks book smarts and values life experience quite highly. He's a learn-by-doing, get-out-there-and-live kind of character, who cultivates and reinforces the safety and love of a pack no matter who his companions are.
